| Sgt. James Treber, killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan. |
Our hearts go out to
our puppy fostermom, Janice Henderson and to her daughter, Tamila. Janice's son-in-law, Sgt. James Treber, was killed
in Afghanistan in the line of duty on June 29th. James and Tamila were still newlyweds, married in October 2007.
We share in your pain and sorrow, Janice and Tamila, and we will not forget the ultimate sacrifice made by James.
Our lease expired in
May and we are moving! Our adoption center on Douglas Boulevard will be closed and we are in the process of getting a bigger
and better facility. Our place was great for our startup, but as we are growing we need more space. We aim to
re-open for pet adoptions in August We are available for phone and e-mail assistance. Please check back often
for updates!
The warm
weather has arrived, so please remember to not leave your pet in your car for even a few minutes! Temperatures inside of
a parked car can quickly rise to 120 to 150 degrees. For more information and to help spread the word, please visit
MyDogIsCool.com. If you see a dog in distress locked in a car in a
parking lot, immediately call 911 or Animal Control and inform the store management. You might save a dog's life!

| Little Clarence getting oxygen therapy at the vet. |
December was quite a month for our sweet little Clarence.
Soon after his arrival we noticed he was having trouble breathing so we took him to the vet. X-rays showed that one of his
lungs was in distress and surgery revealed that little Clarence had an abscess on his lung. The specialist surgeon removed
the abscessed part of his lung and Clarence is now recuperating quite nicely. Clarence's surgery bills cost the WGAWL over
$5,000 (which is a big chunk from our budget!) so if you can help with a donation you will be helping Clarence and the new
pets who arrive in 2008 who need medical attention. You can send a donation via PayPal to donations@wgawl.org or click on
the PayPal link on our Donations page. Your generosity and compassion help us to help homeless pets!
A big THANK YOU to Sherri Adams
and the Chapel Hill High School Humane Animal Welfare Club (HAWC) for all the treats, toys, food, blankets and cleaning supplies
donated to help our shelter animals. Your generosity towards homeless animals is heartwarming and very much appreciated!
